Biography

Studies: at age 12 began studying classical guitar, to which he added jazz after seminars with Jim Hall, Joe Dorio and Pat Metheny, among others. In subsequent years, the artist began exploring in depth finger-picking, Brazilian and Flamenco traditions. Mirandola's focus is on developing original guitar techniques toward an expansion of the expressive possibilities of the instrument. He holds a degree in engineering from the University of Bologna in Italy, where he currently resides and teaches.

Musical activity: the artist's musical career started in 1974 with rock and fusion groups in his native Bologna. Later he played in Italy and toured Europe with jazz groups, for which he composed numerous pieces.

In 1991 he formed, with Guido Premuda, the "Acoustic Guitar Duo", proposing an original repertoire of compositions based on both nylon and metal string sounds. Along with numerous concerts in Italy and participation in acoustic guitar festivals, the duo produced the CD "Vagogirando" in 1997.

Since 1992 Mirandola has performed as a soloist as well, with original compositions and arrangements, incorporating elements of classical, jazz, flamenco, South American and ethnic music. Experimentation with new techniques has contributed to a varied repertoire with atmospheres ranging from sweet to rhythmic.
In 2003 the German label Acoustic Music Records released his CD "Oltre il Mare" (solo nylon string guitar).
In 2009 releases the Cd "My favorite tree" (solo metal string guitar).

Biografia

Studi: inizia all’età di 12 anni, lo studio della chitarra classica, a cui affianca poi il jazz seguendo, tra gli altri, i seminari di Jim Hall, Joe Diorio e Pat Metheny. Approfondisce poi la conoscenza della chitarra finger-picking, brasiliana e flamenca. Si dedica allo sviluppo di tecniche chitarristiche originali, che espandono le possibilità espressive dello strumento. E’ compositore SIAE dal ’86. E’ laureato in ingegneria elettronica; risiede e insegna a Bologna.

Attività musicale: comincia nel ’74 con il gruppo pop-rock “Apparato del Golgi” e prosegue con i “Naphta” (rock-jazz). Forma poi due gruppi jazz: “Mani Jazz Group” e “M.O.S.S. Quartet”, con cui partecipa, tra l’altro, a tournée in Europa e per i quali compone numerosi brani.

Nel ’91 costituisce, con Guido Premuda, un duo di chitarre acustiche, che propone un repertorio di composizioni originali; oltre a numerosi concerti ed alla partecipazione a rassegne di chitarra acustica, il duo ha all’attivo la pubblicazione del CD “Vagogirando”, 1997.

Dal ’92 si esibisce anche come solista, con un repertorio di composizioni ed arrangiamenti originali; dalle corde di nylon e di metallo delle sue chitarre emergono sonorità classiche, jazz, flamenco, etniche e l’utilizzo di tecniche chitarristiche personali.
Ad aprile 2003 pubblica il CD di chitarra solista “Oltre il mare” prodotto dall'etichetta tedesca "Acoustic Music Records", ottenendo ottime recensioni su riviste specializzate internazionali.
Costituisce il Ten Strings duo con Enrico Guerzoni (cello) con cui pubblica nel 2005 il Cd "Ten Strings".
Nel 2009 pubblica il Cd "My favorite tree" per chitarra solista a corde di metallo.
